The idea of the Lille shot-stopper returning to the Super Eagles’ setup has long been mooted. And ahead of next year’s World Cup in Russia which coincides with a seeming dearth of talent in the nation’s goalkeeping department, the former skipper has been favoured for a comeback.
But Idah, a former goalkeeper insists the 35-year-old, who abruptly called time on his international career in 2015 is ‘tired of playing’ for the country.
I was one of those who spoke to [Vincent] Enyeama when there was an attempt to get him back to the national team and he told me he’s tired of playing for Nigeria, Idah told Super Sport.
So, there should be no Enyeama [at the World Cup]. The players should have the love to play for Nigeria and not the love to play at the World Cup and make history.
In proposing a potential replacement for Enyeama, the TV pundit stated his preference for Deportivo La Coruna’s Francis Uzoho over Enyimba’s Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
Ezenwa appears to be the number one now after what he did in the qualifiers, but he is not world-class,” he continued.
Uzoho is better than him and I believe the training camp before the World Cup will determine who is really number one.
